What is Mindfulness-Based Therapy?
Mindfulness-Based Therapies are a group of evidence-based therapeutic interventions that integrate mindfulness practices with traditional psychological techniques to help individuals manage anxiety, depression, and stress. It focuses on cultivating present-moment awareness, self-acceptance, and non-judgmental observation of thoughts and emotions.
Present-Moment Awareness – Encourages individuals to focus on the here and now rather than ruminating on the past or worrying about the future.
Non-Judgmental Acceptance – Helps clients observe their thoughts and emotions without labeling them as “good” or “bad.” This can be cultivated through non-attachment practices while remaining present and mindful of the emotions that arise and pass.
Emotional Regulation – Supports the development of healthier ways to respond to stress and emotional discomfort.
Cognitive Defusion – Teaches individuals to detach from negative thought patterns rather than being consumed by them.
Compassion for Self and Others – Promotes self-compassion and reduces self-criticism.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – Encourages mindfulness and values-based action to enhance psychological flexibility.
Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MiCBT) – Blends an evidence-based CBT model with Vipassana meditation in the style of meditation teacher, S.N. Goenka.
Intuitive Eating – Promotes a healthy relationship with food by emphasizing body awareness, self-compassion, and rejecting diet culture.
